I have two cats, one long haired and the other short haired. For several years, I have been looking for the best way to clean a carpet from animal hair. I also wanted to find an alternative being the most “ zero waste ” as possible. I share my experiences here with you.
The rubber glove method
Previously, I tried inserting my hand into a rubber glove and rubbing the mat repeatedly with the palm of my hand. The friction makes it possible to create “strands” of hair, which we then collect.
The pros
It works pretty well.
Cons
In the long run, the friction heats the palm of the hand and it is frankly unpleasant. The glove will inevitably break eventually, so more should be used.
The brush against bristle method
If you have a similar brush, it may be worth a try.
The pros
It is a zero waste alternative.
Cons
It doesn’t remove pet hair that well, but I think it may depend on the type of carpet you’re trying to clean. And you have to empty the brush multiple times.
The best method: The LintRolled to clean a carpet from animal hair
I have a big crush on the LintRolled . It is a tool whose copper teeth are specifically designed to remove hair and lint. I bought without much expectation (costing US $ 15) and it’s honestly impressive as a small tool.
The pros
It works really well. It picks up ALL animal hair.
You can even use it on:
- The rugs
- Clothes
- The furniture
- Covers
And finally, it is the zero waste alternative par excellence.
Cons
I haven’t found any yet. I can’t wait to see if the tool will stand up to multiple uses.
