One of the first interventions that I wanted to do, under the recommendations of the inspector: empty the ashes from the fireplace. This had not been done for a long time according to him, and as the chimney is still used by the oil furnace, it seemed important to me to empty this conduit. In addition, when emptied, it would be possible for me to take a picture of the interior to make sure that the chimney contained a “sheath”, which thus ensured that no smoke would enter the house if the brick were to crack. .
So I get up one morning, full of good intentions. Dressed in my ugliest clothes, I get my tools and head to the cellar. I thought emptying the ashes was going to be a 15-minute mini-task. Oh mistake.
It took me two half days to get through all that. No need to say that each time, I came back black with soot 🙂
