Future mom or future dad, are you in the preparations for the baby’s arrival? The design of the nursery decor is an achievement in itself and it is important that you choose wisely the color scheme that will be there. This will set the mood of the room and can even affect baby’s mood! Here are some existing schemes to consider when selecting colors for your little one’s room.
Pastels: soothing colors
Soothing colors are always a safe choice for a nursery. Pastel colors envelop baby in a feeling of calm and gentle . They also create a peaceful environment that your baby will enjoy and may well help with his sleep. Soothing colors to consider include soft pink, powder blue, mint, lilac, creamy white, pale yellow, and light lime green.

Color contrasts
If you are considering two main colors for your baby’s room, you can choose two contrasting colors. For example, if you choose a intense color such as royal blue, you should pair it with a more subtle and softer color such as white, gold, pale gray or silver.
Boy or girl? Opt for neutral tones.
When choosing the color scheme for your baby’s room, is it still important to keep in mind your baby’s gender ? Not necessarily! (Plus, it’s always fun to be surprised and not know if you’re going to have a baby boy or girl :))
The gender neutral rooms are currently very popular with many moms and dads. White, gray, black, yellow, green, red, cream and beige are unisex colors, which can be used in various tones and dotted with other accent colors.
A dominant color and an accent color
What are accent colors used for? It is with these that we come to give the “punch” to a room, that we will choose accessories such as cushions and curtains. As it will be the least used color, this also adds a practical side to it: changing the accent color will give you a whole new room!
Neutral accent colors
Metallic colors (gold, silver, copper, bronze, brass) are all suitable for creating pretty accents, for both a girl and a boy.
For a more look minimalist and Scandinavian , we opt for the monochrome , with white dominating and accents of gray or black.

Accent colors for girls
Without limitation, it is popular belief that certain colors like pink and purple are traditionally associated with femininity. Thus, they can be used sparingly, as an accent in a little girl’s room. Besides, these colors come in many shades, such as vibrant pink, lavender and magenta. (It’s interesting to know that darker pinks can sometimes look blue.)

Accent color for boys
If you are expecting a baby boy, how about putting some bright blue or green accents? These brilliant colors are sure to brighten up the nursery.
For my part, my boy’s first bedroom consisted of white, pale gray, yellow and accents of blue.
Choose the color according to the size and lighting of the room
Still hesitant? Take a moment to look at the nursery at different times of the day to observe how sunlight enters the room. Does the room receive direct or indirect sunlight? All day long? Never?
If the nursery is a large room that receives a lot of light, you could go for an overall and enveloping color, in darker tones, such as medium or dark gray, navy blue or even brown.
In conclusion
There is a lot to think about when designing the decor for your baby’s room. Defining the color scheme is quite decisive for the rest.
Besides, I remember my mother’s advice: always start with bedding and then compose around it, is that your way of doing things too?
